Luc Ackermann wins Xpilots in Tijuana/Mexico
Last Saturday, the 20-year-old Thuringian freestyle motocross athlete Luc Ackermann took part in the Xpilots in Tijuana / Mexico. In the sold out with 20,000 spectators Caliente Stadium, the reigning FMX European Champion of the NIGHT of the JUMPs series had to defend against seven athletes from seven nations. In addition to Kota Kugimura from Japan, William van den Putte from Belgium, Fred Kyrillos from Brazil, Marc Phillips from Canada, Christian Meyer from Spain with Johan Nungaray the Mexican local hero and Javier Villegas from Chile the FMX World Champion of 2011 at the start.
Luc Ackermann premiered on the Xpilots Tour in 2015 at the Monterrey Arena in Mexico. Even then, the young extreme athlete could take the hearts of mid-American freestyle motocross fans by storm and defeat Javier Villegas from Chile, the FIM Freestyle Motocross World Champion of 2011 and his brother Gabriel as a 17-year-old.
Three years later, Javier Villegas was again his worst adversary. In qualifying, Luc took the lead in front of strong Chilean and Johan Nungaray of Mexico. This secured him the last starting place in the final. Here, the 20-year-old from Niederdorla brought the 20,000 Mexican freestyle fans crazy with his spectacular tricks such as Ruler Indy Flip, Holygrab, 360, Clicker Superflip, 9-o-clock, surfer tsunami and the flair. This convinced the judges and brought the gold medal to Luc Ackermann. Silver went to Javier Villegas and bronze to Johan Nungaray.
Luc Ackermann is already on the way back from Tijuana to Germany to prepare for the second round of the FMX World Championship. On 2nd and 3rd October 2018, the Thuringian will once again win championship points at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Wuhan, China. The German fans will see him on October 6, 2018 at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Cologne (Lanxess Arena). Here, too, it’s all about him, important points of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship, whose overall ranking he leads.
